Thoughts to words
If somehow you could share a snapshot of your mind with someone, the world would be such an easy place to be, without any misunderstanding and without any conflicts.
Until that happens, we need to put the words together that reflect our thoughts to communicate. And it's not easy. It's hard. Very hard.
This song is so relatable to me -
Jo bhi main, kehna chahoon Barbaad karein, alfaz mere, alfaz mere
If a picture is worth a thousand words then describing one's thought accurately might need at least a million words.
And that's why collaboration is hard.
Understanding one's perspective is hard. Every decision one takes has a history of life that only they have lived. Because everybody's journey is different.
And that's why building trust & collaboration takes months and years. Because over time people start understanding where the other person is coming from. Over time it becomes less words and more understanding.
That's why relationships and teams that fail at communication are fragile. Not every relationship starts with a great understanding. But we can definitely start at "good communication" that leads to better long-term understanding.
Did I tell you that it's a two-way street? You may be great at communicating, but sadly not everybody is. So, what do you do? That's not your fault. But it's your responsibility to listen and shift the perspective once in a while. Remember, a cylinder looks like a circle from the top but it looks like a rectangle sideways.
